Living in the Murweh Shire

Councillor Michelle Ebsworth

As well as being the store owner, I am also a Councillor for the Murweh Shire Council - incorporating the four towns of Charleville, Augathella, Morven and Cooladdi.

A passion for making our communities a wonderful place to live and visit is not only an integral part of my store, but also my life - I am heavily involved in many local organisations including our Dance House, Show Society and school.

As well as offering The Shed, tourist information and maps are available in store, as well as plenty of local knowledge.

Below are some of our past in store happenings and local events! Find out more on our interactive calendar, or by visiting my social page below.

Santa's Workshop

November and December 2019 saw the watchmaker's office and workshop transform into a photo studio. As a fundraiser for the St Mary's Primary School P&F, we set up a Santa's Workshop complete with toys, Christmas trees and plenty of decorations. With a local professional photographer operating in the office, visitors were able to select their favourite photos then purchase packages to suit. We were lucky enough to even have the man in red come to visit! A total of $800 was raised for the P&F to help provide resources to the school.

CWA Christmas Decoration Competition

The Faraway Tree was chosen to host this great CWA initiative in December - with free entry and the chance to win generous voucher prizes, a competition to create a Christmas decoration was run. Proudly displayed in Santa's workshop, the entries in the four age categories were creative and diverse.

Fairy Rock Painting Workshop

For the January 2021 school holidays, the air conditioned workshop has been turned into an enchanted woodland, with beautiful decorations and a space to paint river rocks, which then can be taken home and either kept or hidden around town. Posca paint markers are on hand to be used, with sealing spray to finish the rocks. Everyone is welcome to come and visit this magical space - open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from approx 9.30am - 11am. This is a free and unsupervised event.

St Mary's Race Day Sponsor

The Faraway Tree was honoured to be the sponsor for the boys and girls Fashions on the Field winners for our local primary school's P&F fundraiser at the first Central Warrego Race Club meet for 2021.

Lantern Making Workshop

The Faraway Tree was proud to be chosen as a place to create decorated lanterns, to be carried in the Flood Commemoration Lantern Parade in April. With thanks to the Murweh Shire Council for providing craft items and lanterns and holding a fantastic reunion festival.
