Christmas at The Faraway Tree and Sunday's Belle

I am a big fan of all the nostalgic feels at Christmas time. Growing up, we would celebrate a huge Christmas Eve at my Babcia's house (Grandma in Polish), with our Aunties, Uncles and cousins. I was the youngest so revelled in the magic - backyard ball games, her special lemon sherbet lollies, and carols on the TV.

She had a special set of decorations - I remember best the vinty baubles and pretty little birds on clips. I love finding fabrics with these prints, and when we bought the shop we inherited some retro goodies that always remind me of those evenings!

My Christmas makes often feature the traditional red, green and gold colours - but I am a big fan of a twist on these, and like to throw in blues, naturals and pastel colours too.

They do get worn plenty in December, but as Christmas dresses usually have short cupboard life span - plus it is super hot up here at that time of year! - most of my Christmas styles are simple, sleeveless, adjustable designs.

Our favourite boys brand, Love Henry, offer styles that are perfect for family photo shoots, and paired with a Sunday's Belle dress or romper, will create beautiful memories. I try to always post out Christmas cards to friends and family, and these have become a great opportunity to go and get some good pics to have printed on them - we love finding different spots to visit each year, and always take along a tree to decorate whether we're going to the river, rock pool or red dirt pit! This keeps kids and toddlers busy and not focusing on the camera, which often leads to the best photos.

Our range of toys and gifts give reassurance that you won't have to worry about forgetting the batteries, as our focus is on sustainable, minimal plastic items that can grow with your child and provide imaginative, open ended play. Tiger Tribe activity sets are perfect to take to functions or on long trips where the kids need something portable to keep them busy, while our huge range of puzzles will fill in a quiet afternoon while their favourite Christmas show is on.

In the past, we have held Santa's Workshop photo sessions in the back room of the shop, and in recent years hosted to QCWA Ornament Making Competition. You will be sure to see our shop looking festive in December - if you're in town, drop in and see what is on offer!

Having worked in retail for over twenty years, I find the buzz of Christmas shopping leads us to a quiet family celebration when the big day finally arrives. All of the street parties, lights tours, work functions and nightly elf mischief finally wind down, and it becomes a day of resting, playing and of course eating all of our favourite treats.

We hope that your Christmas season is all that you want it to be - that it can be a time of peace and happiness for your family.

From Michelle, Ryan, Zoe and Pippa at The Faraway Tree Charleville and Sunday's Belle.
